The IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics (JSTQE) invites manuscript submissions in SiGeSn Infrared Photonics and Quantum Electronics. The emerging field of SiGeSn semiconductors and topological quantum materials, including those with Pb or C alloying, has opened up new horizons for infrared photonics and quantum electronics devices monolithically integrated on Si platform. They have broad range of applications such as infrared imaging, bio/chemical sensing, light detection and ranging (LIDAR), as well as novel topological quantum devices. This platform will greatly enrich photonic-electronic integration on Si. The IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics invites manuscript submissions in the area of SiGeSn Infrared Photonics and Quantum Electronics. The purpose of this issue of JSTQE is to highlight the recent progress and trends in developing cutting-edge SiGeSn technologies, from fundamental studies on the electronic structures to demonstration of infrared photonic/quantum electronic devices.

The IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics (JSTQE) invites manuscript submissions in Advances in Neurophotonics for Monitoring Brain Function. The use of optical methods for neuroimaging has significantly increased in the last decade and plays a key role in understanding the brain functionality. Advanced Neurophotonics technologies provide an opportunity to sense the central nervous system at the point-of-care. The special issue in Advances in Neurophotonics for Monitoring Brain Function will bring together all aspects of advanced optical technologies for neuroimaging applications. The committee solicits papers spans from microscopy to noninvasive functional imaging for better understating mechanisms of the brain.

The IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics (JSTQE) invites manuscript submissions in Integrated Opto-electronics in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML). The recent unprecedented explosive growth of AI/ML is opening up humongous application space and market opportunities, likely beyond the large language model (LLM). The fast-growing workloads and large computing power required to deal with ever increasing complexity in various computations, along with the concern of unsustainable power consumption, clearly demand new generations of hardware architectures with pertinent components. These essentially demand the parallel strategies of scaling-up and scaling-out, in which the photonics have been well-recognized as a promising technology to support. Building upon the previous JSTQE special issues (such as “Photonics for Deep Learning and Neural Computing” in 2020, and “Optical Computing” in 2023), the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics invites manuscript submissions in the area of Integrated Opto-Electronics in AI/ML, with the purpose of this issue of JSTQE is to highlight the recent progress and future trends addressing the challenges and opportunities in the areas of leading-edge Integrated Optoelectronics technologies. These are not only on Computing, but also on the efforts, such as in solving the so-called “interconnect bottleneck” in dealing with training and inference. With additional emphasis, this issue would like to pay particular attention to industrial productization and implementation status in relevant fields.

The IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics (JSTQE) invites manuscript submissions in Power and Efficiency Scaling in Semiconductor Lasers. After initial proof-of-concept demonstrations, power- and efficiency-scaling are a central goal of semiconductor laser development, for broad societal benefits, reducing energy consumption and enabling new applications, and rapid progress is currently seen in a broad range of semiconductor lasers, enabled by new insights from studies in device physics and material science and by innovation in device design, materials and technology. The purpose of this issue of JSTQE is to summarize current trends, analyze critical limits and present anticipated next steps in research.
